To successfully upload a CSV file to Hurree you need to ensure that your original spreadsheet is formatted correctly. Below we have outlined some guidance on how to format your spreadsheet.
Note: you don’t need to include columns and rows in your table but if you choose to include these they can be easily edited after upload if you do notice some minor misplacements.
Column Headers
Column headers are used to label the type of data in each column. They should be the first row in your spreadsheet. Here are some best practices for formatting column headers:
Each header should be unique and clearly define the data it represents.
Use clear, concise names for your headers. For example, if you're uploading user data, your headers might include "User_ID", "First_Name", "Last_Name", "Email", etc.
Avoid using special characters or spaces in your headers. Stick with letters, numbers, and underscores.
Remember, each column represents a different data field, so the headers should reflect this.
Row Headers
Row headers are not necessary in CSV files. However, each row in your spreadsheet should represent a unique record or unit of data. The cells in each row should contain the data points that correspond to the column headers above. Here are some tips:
Ensure that each row has the same number of data points as there are column headers. Missing data can lead to misalignment in your table or errors.
For numeric data, ensure that the format is consistent across all cells. For example, if you're recording time spent on a task, decide whether you're using minutes or hours and stick to it throughout.
