Understanding Help Scout Errors in Hurree

Troubleshoot Help Scout integration errors in Hurree. Not for general Help Scout issues.

Written by Shauna Doherty

If you're experiencing issues with your Help Scout widgets, this guide explains the most common errors and how to resolve them.

If you encounter an error that isn't covered below, please get in touch with our support team for assistance.

No data was returned for this request

Explanation: Help Scout processed the request successfully but returned no response content. This is a successful response, not an authentication or server error, and it does not by itself confirm that there is no reporting activity.

How to solve: No action is usually required. If your widget is unexpectedly empty, check the selected inbox, data source, and date range. If you expect data to be present and the widget remains empty, please contact our support team.

Your Help Scout connection could not be verified

Explanation: The credentials used to connect your Help Scout account are missing, incorrect, or no longer valid, preventing your widgets from retrieving updated data.

How to solve: Reconnect your Help Scout account through Hurree using valid credentials for the account you want to report on. If the issue continues after reconnecting, please contact our support team for assistance.

You do not have permission to access this resource

Explanation: Your connection is authenticated, but Help Scout has denied access to the requested resource. Possible causes include restricted inbox or reporting access, API access not being enabled, a missing Access API permission, or missing payment information.

How to solve: Ask your Help Scout administrator to check the connected user's inbox access, reporting permissions, and Access API permission. If the message specifies API Not Enabled, ask your administrator or Help Scout support to review API availability. If it specifies Payment Missing, update the account's billing information. Try again once the relevant restriction has been resolved.

The requested resource could not be found

Explanation: The requested Help Scout resource could not be found. A conversation, customer, inbox, or other resource may have been deleted, or the reference may be incorrect.

How to solve: Check that the resource still exists in the Help Scout account connected to Hurree. If it has been removed, update your widget settings to use an available resource.

This request conflicts with an existing resource

Explanation: Help Scout could not create a resource because a conflicting one already exists, such as a customer email address that is already in use. This relates to a create operation rather than a normal reporting request.

How to solve: If this appears on a Hurree reporting widget, please contact our support team so we can investigate the request. Do not delete or merge customer records simply to resolve a reporting error.

You've reached the Help Scout API limit

Explanation: Too many API requests have been made within the permitted time window. Requests from other integrations using the same account may also contribute to the limit.

How to solve: Wait before trying again, or check your widget after the next scheduled sync period. Avoid repeatedly refreshing while the limit is active. If this happens frequently, please contact our support team so we can review your Help Scout connector configuration.

Help Scout internal server error

Explanation: An unexpected error occurred while Help Scout was processing the request. This is a server-side error rather than a problem with your login credentials.

How to solve: Wait a moment and try again, or check your widget after the next scheduled sync period. If the error persists after multiple sync attempts, please contact our support team for assistance.

Help Scout is temporarily unavailable

Explanation: The Help Scout API cannot process the request at the moment. This is usually a temporary service interruption.

How to solve: Wait a few minutes and try again, or check your widget after the next scheduled sync period. If the issue persists, please contact our support team.

Help Scout did not respond in time

Explanation: An internal call timed out before Help Scout could complete the request. Help Scout documents that the request can be retried after a short delay.

How to solve: Wait a moment and try again. If the timeout continues after multiple sync attempts, please contact our support team.

A required value is missing or invalid

Explanation: Messages such as Empty Value, Null Value, Value Not Supported, Size, Invalid Number, Invalid Identifier, Not Well-Formed Email Address, Enum Value, and List Of Enum Values indicate missing or invalid values in the request. Size can mean a value is outside its allowed length range, not only that it is too long.

How to solve: Review any relevant integration and widget settings for missing or incorrect entries, and select valid values where options are provided. If the message refers to a field you cannot change in Hurree, please contact our support team. You do not need to edit customer records unless a specific data issue has been confirmed.

Malformed Date

Explanation: A date sent in the request was not in the format expected by Help Scout. For API date-time values, Help Scout documents the UTC format yyyy-MM-dd'T'HH:mm:ss'Z', such as 2026-10-20T13:00:00Z.

How to solve: Check that your widget has a complete, valid date range. Hurree handles API date formatting, so if the message persists, please contact our support team rather than trying to enter a raw API timestamp into the widget.

Conversation or attachment restrictions

Explanation: Messages such as Conversation Locked: Too Many Threads, Conversation Locked: Conversation Too Old, Cannot Delete Attachment From Published Conversation, and Invalid Attachment relate to creating or changing Help Scout conversations or attachments. They do not mean your reporting account needs more permissions.

How to solve: If one of these messages appears on a reporting widget, please contact our support team with the exact wording so we can investigate. Do not create replacement conversations or remove attachments to resolve a reporting-widget error.

Other validation and operation errors

Explanation: Valid Conversation Owner, Valid Imported Thread, Invalid Thread Author, Allowed Patch Operations, and Cannot Run Workflow describe requirements for creating or modifying Help Scout data. A user reference, imported-thread setting, patch operation, or workflow request does not meet Help Scout's requirements.

How to solve: These request details are handled by the integration. If you see one of these messages in Hurree, please contact our support team with the affected widget and the exact message. No manual changes to conversation ownership or workflows are normally needed for reporting.

Other Request Errors

Explanation: These indicate a request that does not meet Help Scout's requirements (400), an unmet condition (412), an oversized request (413), or an unsupported data format (415). You may also see Invalid URI, Invalid JSON, Invalid Media Type, Invalid HTTP Method, or Rejected Request.

How to solve: Review your integration and widget settings and try again. If 413 appears, try reducing the reporting scope where possible. Request URLs, JSON, and headers are handled by the connector, so contact our support team if an error persists rather than attempting to edit these yourself.

Other successful and redirect responses

Explanation: 200: OK means the request succeeded and returned data. 201: Created means a new resource was created. 301: Moved Permanently means the resource is available at a different ID or path. These are not authentication or server errors.

How to solve: No action is usually needed for a successful response. If one of these codes is displayed as a widget error, or a moved resource prevents reporting, please contact our support team so we can review how the response is being handled.
